A Pixie's Work is Never Done.

I'm sure it seems as though IOE has been rather quiet. Ahhh, but things aren't always what they seem! There has been so much happening that this Pixie has been working, working, working...and that has left little time for the blogging & tweeting. I'm here now though, so let me fill you in on what's been happening!

IOE paired up with Pagan by Design and had our very first giveaway! To read the Interview they did with me click:

Giveaway to Celebrate 13,000 Visitors!

Also, check out the link to see who won!
Isle of Enchantments Giveaway Winner

I have added some Pixie Created Items in the new department: Visions by Isleen. The pretty picture above shows what has been added so far. I've also re-vamped the Links page. It was kinda , well..."blah!" before and now there's a few more places I think are cool and worth checking out.

Menus and Department pages are also getting an overhaul. There are now sub-menus located on the menu at the left of the page (THANK YOU Citymax IT Department! :D). Jewelry, Candles & Accessories, Meditation & Prayer Tools, Music, the Fair Trade Marketplace and Fair Trade Jewelry have now been broken down into smaller categories to make  it easier to find what you are looking for. I'm about 99% done with this, but as go along, I'm sure I'll find more things to re-organize for your shopping ease.

There's also new products coming your way! More Fair Trade Jewelry is being added, along with a Fair Trade Home Decor and Holiday items. Additions are being made to the Candles & Accessories department as well. Mandala Pillars and Jar Candles are already up, and another line of Pillars along with soy Candle Tins will be up by the end of next week.
So, keep popping back to see what's been added. If you don't see what you're looking for, just send me an e-mail at customerservice@isleofenchantments.com and I'll do my best to find it for you!

Help Bring About Peace for Our Kids!

Today is International Peace Day. We're spending the day letting everyone know little ways they can help bring about Peace. (To see all the awesomeness we are spreading over the interwebs, check out our Facebook & Twitter pages).

Our main focus of this event wasn't quite clear to us until yesterday. Yesterday we learned, along with many of you, that yet another teen had taken his own life as a result of being bullied, and ridiculed by his classmates.

Jamey Rodemeyer was only 14. According to his mother, he had been struggling with his sexuality (which, isn't uncommon for any teenager) for about a year. His struggles became even more difficult when coupled with the incessant mocking and otherwise hostile behavior he was faced with on a regular basis. He posted about his struggles, but things didn't stop. Now...he is gone.

He is not the only one. Over the last few years the number of teens who have taken their own lives as a result of unending bullying (anti-gay or otherwise) is heartbreaking, at best...Seth Walsh - 13, Lance Lundsten - 18, Carl Joseph Walker-Hoover - 11, Tyler Clementi - 18, Tiffani Maxwell - 16, Eric Mohat - 17Haylee Fentress and Paige Moravetz - 14...

This needs to stop.

Our dreams of World Peace can never be realized if we cannot facilitate it in our homes, neighborhoods and schools first. We believe The Trevor Project is on the right track, so from now through Saturday September 24th, $1 from every ITEM sold at Isle of Enchantments will be donated to their Organization. Please help us help them spread awareness and facilitate acceptance initiatives around the nation.

If you are a parent, or are a teacher, day care provider, camp counselor (or otherwise involved with kids)... Check out these Kid-Friendly Peace Initiatives you can share with them. The earlier we can instill the values of Peace, Tolerance, & Acceptance, the better equipped they will be to help spread the word, and end this tragic cycle of hate.

Peaceful Blessings,
Isleen

A Somber Anniversary & an International Day of Peace

September holds two very important days. One is a day of reflection & remembrance, the other a day of unity and hope for the future.

September 11, 2011 marks the 10th anniversary of the day 19 Al-Qaeda members hijacked 4 commercial airliners and brought terror to the forefront of the American Consciousness. 2,996 people lost their lives that day...calling it a "tragedy" still seems rather insignificant.

Many services are being held this week, and will continue through to the 11th, and while it is still difficult for many to think about the horrors of that otherwise beautiful September day...I urge you to take a moment and remember those who's lives were cut short, and to be grateful for the police officers and fire fighters who so selfishly and bravely did their jobs.

As of this writing, we here in the US have been placed on High Alert as a "Credible, But Unconfirmed Threat" has been deemed credible by Homeland Security for the 11th. No matter your Faith, prayers or positive thoughts for safety certainly wouldn't hurt.

The other day Isle of Enchantments is quite excited about...it's International Peace Day! Yes, September 21st was deemed an International Day of Peace by the United Nations in 1981 (Well, it was actually the 3rd Tuesday in September until 2002 when they changed it to the 21st...but I digress).

It is a day of  peaceful gatherings, prayers for peace, peace walks, lighting of candles, interfaith peace conferences...and whatever else people can think of to do to bring awareness and to help create Peace in our lifetime.

We're planning a little something too. If you were around for World fair Trade Day, you'll remember we had a big Virtual Fair involving our website along with Facebook & Twitter. This will be scaled down a bit, but we will be offering a place for Peaceful Dialogue, ideas for how you can help facilitate Peace, crafts, videos, quotes and as always: FUN!

We'll be highlighting some of our Peace themed merchandise, and there will be an opportunity to win a little somethin'. Everyone who participates will get a fun Virtual Sticker that says "(Name) Partied with a Pixie for Peace!" (Still working on the design). :)

So, stay tuned to Twitter & Facebook and spread the word, 'cause Peace is kind of a big deal. ;)

Until we meet again ~ Isleen

Isleen Explains Chakras...

{EAV_BLOG_VER:7411b40c636bddd0}

The Low-Down on Chakras

Many of our customers are aware of the Chakra System, but I'm sure there's some who haven't the slightest inkling what they are. SO, what the heck is a Chakra? Why should you care?

The What:

Basically, Chakras are the 7 major energy centers of the body. They are swirling spirals of energy that line up along the spinal column (See Pixie pic at left). Each Chakra corresponds with a color, and a particular area of physical/emotional well-being.

Why You Should Care:

If any of your Chakras are closed, blocked, or otherwise out of whack, it will take it's toll on you both Emotionally & Physically. If you're feeling out of sorts, your first step is to see which Chakra(s) correspond with what's troubling you. Once you know what you're up against, you can then deal with it using Chakra-Focused Meditation, Reiki, Crystal Healing, or any other method you deem appropriate, to move towards balancing your Chakras.

The Basics:

Here's a little interactive widget that gives a little insight into what Chakra is associated with what. I will eleborate at some point with a chart...but I'm having a hard time finding an adequate one...so, When I'm finished creating it, it will be added to this post. :o) Anyway...On to the Widget:

Fair Trade Artisan of the Month: Art Camp

Fair Trade Artisan of the Month: Art Camp
This month the head honcho at Isle of Enchantments (namely, this little Pixie right here *Isleen points to herself, then waves to the readers*) is starting something that has been on the "To-Do" list for a while. What's that? Well, if you read the title of this post, I'm sure you've figured it out! If you haven't I shall hold you in suspense no longer: I'm starting a little feature called the Fair Trade Artisan of the Month.

So, what's it all about? Each month there will be a post on this here little Blog of Awesomeness all about the amazingly talented folks that hand craft the items found in our Fair Trade Marketplace.

You'll find out:
  • Who the Organization is.
  • Where they are located.
  • How they make a real impact on the lives of the artisans.
  • What it is they make.
I think it's a nice way to, not only educate yourself a little more about the world of Fair Trade, but to also give you some insight as to how simple it is for you, as a consumer to make an impact on someone you'll most likely never meet....just by buying something you love.  Ok, on with the Show!

Art Camp (Artesanas Campesinas), located in Tecalpulco, Mexico is a rural womens' artisan co-op founding in 1991/1992. Mexico has long been known for it's fine craftsmanship of abalone & silver jewelry. However, the huge influx of jewelry that entered the U.S. market in the early 90's (from nations such as China & Thailand) caused a catastrophic drop in demand for Mexican hand crafted goods.

The economic climate, especially in the rural areas of Mexico, was bleak. The women of Tecalpulco responded by joining together to try to revive the once great handcraft industry, and Art Camp was born.

These remarkable women do not simply "make jewelry". These women have developed
original model making capability, Centrifugal Rubber Mold Casting technology, and
artfully mastered color matching and crystal resin making. They have given their daughters the task of learning HTML code, as well as Office software such as Excel and Quiken.

They do all of this while continuing to nurture & educate their children, and carrying out their civic responsibilities as active members of their village community.

Through their amazing artistic talents and unending resolve, the women of Art Camp provide spectacular quality goods in exchange for Fair prices from companies buying their goods. They have been able to help themselves, their families, and their community rise above economic hardship.

Now that you've learned how amazing these women are, check out some of their handy work below. And keep watching, because we are adding more of their products SOON!

Pixie Pushing Peace

Hey all! Isleen here with a couple little tidbits to share. :)

First piece of news: thanks to Blogger, we've found one way to start supporting Peace & Human Rights, which are very important to us here at Isle of Enchantments.

We've hooked up with SocialVibe, which is a website where individuals can make positive measurable impact for causes just by completing simple activities provided by sponsors (Such as American Express).

Basically, all you have to do is click on the little widget thingy located in the right hand column of your new favorite blog (of course, by favorite, I mean this one) and perform a free activity (which at the time of this writing is a quiz to determine what kind of volunteer you are). That's it! Simple as that. Each activity you do through our widget thingy, or by visiting our SocialVibe Page, earns points that translate into donations from the Sponsor (ie: American Express). Is it worth it?? Well, in just over a year, the SocialVibe community has raised more than $700,000 for over 40 not profit organizations. So yup, we think it's worth it! So please, join us and help raise money towards making real social change!!

Alrighty, next piece of news is: You can now purchase Gift Certificates for Isle of Enchantments! Pretty awesome, right?? Now you can give the gift of choice...and even keep yourself out of the proverbial Dog House by being able to get a gift, even at the very last minute.

So, how do you buy one?? You can either click on the "Buy Gift Certificate" button on our home page...or click the one below.

Time to flutter off and get some work done...lots to do!!!

Have an Enchanting Day!
Isleen♥

Who is Isle of Enchantments?

First, let me introduce myself: My name is Isleen.
I am the Head Pixie at Isle of Enchantments, and the alter ego of our owner.
I've included my picture, because I'm sure you're dying to know what I look like (I'm not being narcissistic, most people don't see Pixies every day! Well...some do, but I digress).

Now that you've been able to take a gander at my Perky Pixie Self, I've got a question for ya.

Who is Isle of Enchantments?

I figured I'd ask the question...because I know you were thinking it! ;)

Well, the standard serious professional like answer is this:

We are a small business based in Rochester, NY that provides an assortment of Spiritual, Whimsical, and Fair Trade: Gifts, Jewelry, Home Decor & More!
We are strong advocates for Peace, and believe that Tolerance, Understanding & Knowledge are the keys to making our world a better place.
We embrace all spiritual paths and do our best to provide items and information that will aide in our customer's spiritual growth.

The "Real World" answer is that we are a super cool, ever evolving Mash-Up of a New Age Store, a Fair Trade Marketplace, and a Multicultural Resource Center! Pretty amazing right?? Right. ;)

We're currently gearing up for Imbolc and Valentine's Day, with new stuff being added to the Seasonal Enchantments page a few times a week.

Well...I suppose that's all I've got to tell you for now. This was supposed to be an introduction post, after all. lol

I will be busy flittering about carrying out my duties as Head Pixie...but if you're on The Isle and happen to catch a glimpse of me, be sure to stop and say Hi!

Peaceful Pixie Blessings,
Isleen
